Laughable at best. A few pieces of "chicken", some square cut veggies right out of school, maybe $.50 worth of rice, and a bit of sauce. The chicken and veggies would have fit in my two hands with space left over. More rice than anything. Do not buy for almost $8. You get about $2 worth of food at best. Maybe less, considering the chicken isn't even all that good. I used a dollar bill for scale when taking these pictures. I have to tell you that to reach my 100 word minimum. Just save your money. Sure, these meals are easy, but if you can find the spices in your neighborhood, you can make probably four times the amount for the same money. And that's using better ingredients.

Disgusting Shrimp Scampi!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased a bag of Contessa Shrimp Scampi and i had to throw it out. It was just terrible with fishy, rubbery shrimp and a completely tasteless "sauce" that did not resemble shrimp scampi at all. I'm shocked at the lack of quality, and all for the low low price of $6. Do NOT waste your time on this product!

What happened??

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
For the past few years we have been buying the barefoot contessa shrimp scampi with linguini, and it has always been delicious! I actually love to cook with fresh ingredients, but on night's when I have a migraine or are pressed for time, we've enjoyed these frozen meals because the quality is so close too a home cooked meal. All the ingredients are separated and fresh. Nicely spun separated spools of bright pasta, nice large healthy looking shrimp, and a sauce that is full of flavor and ***. NOT ANY MORE!!!!!! WHAT HAPPENED??? We just bought a bag the other night and the packaging seemed a little different but its been such a trusted brand that we didn't think much of it. As soon as we opened the package and viewed the contents we had to recheck the outside of the bag to make sure we had purchased the right product. Absolutely a night a day difference, and in the worst way. No more nicely separated spools of bright pasta. Now its just a frozen clump of little short broken pieces of grey unappealing pasta that doesn't even seem like real pasta at all. When cooked, it immediately just stuck together and became an inedible mass of mush. The so- called shrimp were tiny with no brightness or freshness to them. Then when we cooked them they turned into little micro-minny pieces of fishy tasting rubber. The sauce just added insult to injury. There was not even any way to add to it and pepper it up yourself - it was just horrible!!. I had a good mind to return it to the store and demand my money back. What a ripp-off!! It was absolutely inedible and we ended up eating Top Ramen noodles instead!! Yes thats right... it was so disgusting it was not even edible and we actually opted for Top Ramen noodles from the dollar store instead. The bag, as I mentioned, looked a little different, and when we read it said 'new' as in new and improve. What ever Contessa meals has done is absolutely NOT an improvement. They might as well put dog or cat food in a bag and sell it. This is a very dishonest marketing stratedgy to use a well trusted name and clearly swap out a higher quality food product for a far inferior, lower end, cheaply processed one in an effort to save cost at the expense of unknowing consumers. Blasphemous!! Horrible way to do business and an insult to trusting long time customers. Shame shame shame on you Contessa Meals.

The sauce is very peppery now. We loved our past bags of this dinner. We had it several times. Didn't taste the same this time disappointing. Not as lemony. Just not the same.

Contessa Premium Foods Rice Review from Savannah, Georgia

Rice package has split open during cooking (microwave) on last 5 purchases of their products. So, not only is there less rice, I also have to clean up the mess in the microwave. And as noted by others, the amount of meat would be laughable if it wasn't so expensive. Have enjoyed their products for years but ready to give up. To add insult to injury, they don't have the nerve to put a phone number or website on the package - just a mailing address. Really? In this day and age?

Really? 2 servings????!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The amount of chicken was a joke. I literally laughed when I put the meat in the pan. It was truly such an unbelievable joke that I said, "Nah, can't be" and looked to see if there was another meat package... I shook my head as I found no more. I ended up adding more chicken from the freezer and more broccoli too, just to be enough for one! It reminds me of a kid lying to his parent, knowing the truth will come out. Come on! Doesn't even make sense when a kid does it! Good think I got it on sale. If I had paid full price for THIS... I might just be after revenge.

YOUR PRODUCT CONTESSA SHRIMP PRMAVERA BAD TASTE

IPURCHASED 3 OF YOUR SHRIMP PRIMAVERA PREPARED TO INSTRUCTIONS. IT TASTED TERRIBLE ON ONE (1)THAT I PREPARED AND WE ATE. I THREW OUT THE OTHER TWO (2) PACKS TOO THE BIRDS WITHOUT THE SAUCE. I THINK YOU NEED A NEW SAUCE AS THAT IS WHAT RUINED THE TASTE. I DID NOT THINK OF THAT BEFORE FEEDING THE BIRDS OR I WOULD HAVE PREPARED THE OTHER TWO (2) AND TRIED TO SALVAGE THEM.      I HOPE THIS HELPS YOUR QUALITY CONTROL, COME UP WITH A BETTER TASTING PRODUCT SAUCE. OTHER THAN THE SAUCE IT WAS GOOD W/PLENTY OF SHRIMP.  KELLY KANODE 5341 RIMROCK, COURT FAYETTEVILLE, NC 28303

Amount of meat

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I was disappointed in the amount of chicken in your chicken stir-fry. The package states it's a meal for two with 25 gms of protein. I don't think the amount of meat I found in your package would come to that amount. Also if I had followed the instructions for cooking, we would have been eating veggies that were not cooked. I've cooked other dinners and the instructions say to cover and cook. for ? mins. After stir frying for a few minutes I knew they would not be cooked sufficiently in 7 mins so I covered my fry pan and cooked them until they were done. A little less sodium would be good maybe using a low sodium soy sauce.

Can't find the product

My son has been gluten intolerant for more than 16 years and I am constantly on the lookout for convenience and variety with regard to his food. I found the Contessa jambalaya and he loved it, it was also very easy to prepare, only ten minutes and one pot. However, I cannot find it anymore. Originally bought one package, when it was successful, I went back and bought several more, but now I have run out. Found it in Market Basket, Newburyport, MA. could you please tell me who in my area carries this product. I would be very appreciative. My zip code is 01913. Thank you!

Contessa went into bankruptcy in 2011 and in April or May of this year they laid off all employees and shut down the business.

Contessa Foods, Good & Bad

After buying Contessa's Stir Fry twice & really enjoying it, I decided to branch out a bit. So I bought their Chicken Fried Rice. It turned out to be absolutely horrible! The rice itself was okay, but the chicken was inedible! It came in same-sized pieces and was so tough that it was nearly impossible to *** into! It also was virtually w/o any discernable taste. Even my two cats wouldn't eat it. However, when it came to getting a refund on it, I didn't go to Contessa. I just took it back to the store where I purchased it, Fred Meyer, and they gladly refunded to me my purchase price. Lesson learned: It pays to shop at a reputable store. Also, not everything Contessa makes is bad. I also tried the lasagne and it wasn't bad either. But I do love their stirfry...it contains plenty of fresh vegetables as well as shrimp!

I am cooking the orange chicken right now, and the serving size says for 2.5 people, but there are about 8 small pieces of chicken in the whole bag. That will not feed 2.5 people at all.

Contessa Frozen Foods - *** food, no refund!

I recently (April 2008) purchased a package of Orange Ginger Shrimp made by the Contessa Foods Co. of San Pedro, CA. It was horrible! The shrimp were tiny and flavorless, and 80% of the contents of the package was a gummy, bland coating. 20% at most was shrimp. I called the company and asked for a refund. They sent me coupons good for a 75-cent discount on more of their *** products. I called back and asked again for a refund; they said "oh, we don't give refunds." So beware of anything sold by Contessa; their food is awful and their attitude toward customers is "***." Worst company I've dealt with in a long time!

I purchased two different pasta dishes of Contessa. I like the tomato sauce....but here is my complaint about the products...

Both had so, so , so many large pieces of onions that it was so tough eating equal amounts of onion to pasta..My guest spit them out as well.

Also more expensive than other similar product that are equally as good.

Economy must be considered. I purchased when the were buy one get one.
